What’s the difference between Microcement and Venetian render

Updated: Jun 1

Microcement vs. Venetian Render: What’s the Real Difference?

Let’s set the record straight.

We hear it all the time:

“Is microcement the same as Venetian render?”

Short answer? Nope. Not even close.

They may share a certain high-end vibe, but when it comes to performance, durability, and what they’re made for—they live in two totally different worlds.

And just to clear the air:

At Concrete Legacy Studios, we don’t do Venetian render. We’re unapologetically microcement specialists—it’s what we live and breathe. When it comes to product selection? We choose Topciment every time.

So… What Is Microcement?

Microcement is one of the most versatile, low-profile, high-performance finishes available today. It’s a thin, cement-lime-based coating that we trowel by hand. This creates seamless surfaces that look incredible and wear effectively. You can use microcement on floors, walls, bathrooms, and benchtops—essentially, anywhere you can think of.

We rely on Topciment’s Natture system because it provides everything we need:

  • Strength and flexibility

  • Stunning texture and tone

  • Options for wet areas, floors, joinery, and exteriors

Microcement is more than just a finish. It’s a complete system that includes proper primers, base coats, fine coats, and protective sealers. It’s built for performance and designed for elegance.

What About Venetian Render?

Venetian render, or Venetian plaster, is undeniably beautiful. However, it’s a different beast entirely. It consists of lime and marble powder that we polish to a high sheen, and it’s strictly for walls and ceilings.

Venetian render focuses more on decoration than functionality. You should not walk on it, wash it down, or consider it for a kitchen benchtop.

In summary:

  • Venetian render is essentially a wall feature.

  • Microcement serves as an architectural surface.
